Paper string

I found this strange stuff when I went shopping a couple of weeks ago. It's paper string. On the face of things it should be easy to make. It's just strips of paper that are twisted into strings, but I've tried, and it isn't.

I mocked up a loom with some pins and a piece of balsa wood and wove it into this square. Just because I couldn't think of anything else to do with it!
